Punta Cana Airports receives 3.2 million tourists in 2018

The international airport of Punta Cana has received between January – October 2018 a total of 3,258,246 tourists, which represents 69.6% of those who have arrived in the Dominican Republic in this 10 months, according to the information issued by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD)

The following are in order: Las Americas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA – JFPG) with 15.7% and Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata, with 7.3%.

While the terminals of La Romana, Cibao, La Isabela and El Catey de Samaná, received the remaining 7.4% of total non-resident foreign visitors

The BCRD indicates that the Punta Cana international airport registered the highest cumulative increase in the arrival of tourists, with the arrival of 242,791 additional passengers, which in relative terms represented an increase of 8.1%, followed by the Cibao terminal (34,454), El Catey in Samaná with 16,107 and La Isabela with 4,357 more travelers compared to the January-October 2017 period.

During the January-October period of 2018, 95.2% of tourists reported that the main reason for their visit to the country was recreation. Likewise, 94.0% reported that they used hotel establishments as their lodging option. Regarding the age of the visitors, 57.7% oscillates between the range of 21 to 49 years, while, in relation to gender, 52.5% corresponds to the female and 47.5% to the male.
